I’ve mentioned before how much I adore toys that actually make Anna think instead of just an electronic toy that tells her what to think.   Since money is tight these days, people have been forced to be more creative with their entertainment and a happy byproduct of these difficult times is that there seems to be a shift in making toys more basic too.  Electronics have their place – my kid has her own iphone , for crying out loud -  but nothing makes me happier than seeing Anna pretending and using her imagination.

The USA is being overrun by rodents, but at least they are little cute furry ones. The Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are the newest fad in kid’s toys and, based upon early indications, will be at the top of every child’s wish list this Christmas. They could even be the toy of the year for 2009. In the words of the company’s marketing slogan, Zhu Zhu pets are “pets without the mess”. They don’t need feeding, they don’t need their cage cleaned out and they don’t die leaving you to explain to little Johnny that his hamster has gone to heaven.

My daughter loves science and figuring out how things work so when Team Mom offered us the chance to review the Magnificent Manicure Kit my daughter kinda flipped her lid with excitement. I’m not exaggerating. She chuckled the whole time I was pulling all of the contents out of the box like it was Christmas morning after it arrived.. I’m guessing as far as kids go that this is the sign of a super cool gift and she was extremely pleased.

Indiana Jonas celebrated five years of life on October 25th. To honor the occasion, we had a small party at our house. I told him that he could invite 5 friends, and he came up with a guest list of 4 people. I kept suggesting other friends to make the 5th guest, but he denied them all. The party was low key and low stress.

My friends and I are constantly comparing notes and sharing ideas when it comes to most anything, but especially when it comes to gift ideas! There are seas of gifts out there and not enough time in the day to sort through it all. I normally go towards something that is solid, unique, and going to appeal to a child for a long time. When I was introduced to Babalu I knew I had to share them with you because they have classic toys with integrity.
